3 Ways to Find the Perfect TikTok Hashtags For Your Videos

1 billion active monthly users. TikTok blew up in 2020 when the world was forced inside with over 315 million downloads happening in the first quarter alone. It has become the go-to social media app for mindless, yet totally entertaining and educational, scrolling. Just like on Instagram, hashtags on TikTok keep videos organized and searchable for users. This gives you the chance to really hone in on the ideal audience you are targeting and let the algorithm take over from there. As always, in your social media strategy, consistency is key!

Here are a few things to keep in mind when sharing your next TikTok creation.

GO FOR THE TRENDS

A big reason why TikTok is so alluring to many users is how organic and almost, unplanned, content seems to be. If you see a trending hashtag or challenge happening, rather than planning the day to shoot and mapping out the “script” like you might with your other long form content – just jump on it. This is an excellent way to increase the chances of landing on the coveted For You Page. P.S. Don’t forget to check out the Discover Tab for all other trending challenges and tracks.

FIND YOUR NICHE

Your niche in your hashtag strategy is going to help you craft the community and audience you’re looking to reach. Hashtags are all about what the user is searching for – so when thinking through your hashtags, think about what your target audience is going to be searching for. Choose 2-3 broader hashtags relevant to your topic and then add a couple niche hashtags.

While hashtags are an extremely important part of the TikTok algorithm, it’s best to keep your hashtags to 3-7 per video. The more hashtags you place in your caption, the more the text covers up what is in the video content and you only have 100 characters to work with.

TESTING, TESTING, TESTING

The TikTok algorithm is still a very mysterious place so it’s important to remember that testing is key in finding what sticks when it comes to engagement and that chance of reaching a larger audience.

Record the reach of your hashtags and see if some perform better than others a few days after posting. By keeping track and paying attention to your analytics you’ll find your go-tos for your video content!
